This Privacy Policy explains how NagarPulse ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use our mobile application, public website, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Policy.

Scope

NagarPulse is an independent community platform operated for users in Bangladesh. The Services include civic reporting, a public map, community verification, optional emergency alerts to nearby volunteers, volunteer response tools, and RouteBuddy commute matching. This Policy applies to all features unless a separate notice states otherwise.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the Services, and limited technical data:

  • Account information: email address, display name, language preference, and authentication data from email one-time codes or third-party sign-in (Google, Facebook, or Apple, where enabled).
  • User-generated content: reports, photos, videos, descriptions, categories, comments, reactions, and approximate or precise location data attached to a report when you submit it.
  • Emergency and volunteer features: emergency type, optional message, device location at the time of an alert, volunteer availability settings, alert radius, and response status. Volunteer contact details and precise locations are not published on the public website.
  • RouteBuddy: commute route details, organisation affiliation, verified work or institute email, vehicle information you choose to provide, fare notes, and in-app messages related to ride coordination.
  • Device and notifications: push notification tokens when you enable notifications, and device identifiers necessary to deliver the app.
  • Technical and security logs: IP address, user agent, timestamps, and similar metadata used to secure the Services, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors.

How we use information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To create and maintain your account and authenticate you.
  • To operate civic reporting, public maps, timelines, search, and community verification features.
  • To send notifications you request, including report updates, emergency alerts to opted-in volunteers, and RouteBuddy requests.
  • To moderate content, enforce our Community Guidelines, and protect user safety.
  • To produce aggregated, non-identifying statistics shown on our public website and press materials.
  • To comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, and protect our rights and users.

Disclosure of information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only as follows:

  • Public content you mark as public (or default public categories) may be visible to anyone on the map, track pages, and related public views.
  • Service providers that help us host infrastructure, send email, deliver push notifications, or operate analytics, under contractual confidentiality obligations.
  • Volunteers receive limited alert information necessary to respond to an emergency you initiate; they do not receive your public profile beyond what the app displays for that flow.
  • When required by law, regulation, court order, or to protect the safety of any person.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice where practicable.

Location and public visibility

Location is central to civic reporting. We do not publish your precise residential address on public web pages. Public views use moderated or approximate placement where appropriate, especially for sensitive categories. You are responsible for not including private information about third parties without consent.

Emergency features

Emergency alerts are community coordination tools only. They are not a substitute for official emergency services (e.g. national emergency numbers). Location data is used to match alerts with volunteers who have opted in within a configured radius. Misuse of emergency features may result in account suspension.

Retention and deletion

We retain information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data as described on our Delete account. Certain records may be retained in anonymised or aggregated form, or where retention is required for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organisational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Access and update profile information in the app.
  • Control notification preferences and volunteer mode settings.
  • Request account deletion via the app or contact channels listed below.
  • Contact us to raise privacy questions or complaints; we will respond within a reasonable period.

Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy where permitted by law.
